Placemaking Plans for over 25 towns and cities across Wales that set bespoke place and regeneration visions and unlock private and public sector investment

The Challenge

To provide bespoke place visions for each town and city that harness what is unique about each place and responds to the challenges faced.  To be based on community and business engagement and identify a series of projects and investment opportunities that can be delivered.  In some cases we were tasked with preparing delivery plans to evidence how key projects could be delivered.

Our Role

To lead the production of plans, undertaking all community and business engagement, technical working with Council Officers, creating place visions and ambitions in accord with the Placemaking Wales Charter, preparation of place strategies identifying projects and investment opportunities, preparing development prospectus documents for private sector engagement, and preparation of delivery plans that provide concept designs, costs plans, and funding advice for key projects. Many of the later have since secured funding and are in delivery.

The Outcome

Over 25 Placemaking Plans prepared for clients across Wales that capture the identify of each town and city and harness the support of the local community and local business.  Each plan sets a clear long-term place vision and strategy that gives clarity for how future investment will be delivered while offering flexibility for changes in the economic, commercial and land ownership context. For some plans supporting investment prospectus documents and delivery plans were prepared that were used to market test projects with the private sector and apply for public sector funding.  To date, these documents have helped to secure over £50m of funding from the Levelling Up Fund, Shared Prosperity Fund and Transforming Towns fund.  Many of the projects being funded are currently in construction.   For many of the placemaking plans we are preparing further feasibility studies that are helping to inform the delivery of further projects and investment opportunities.
