Project Information
Creating passivhaus homes on constrained brownfield land
The Challenge
To transform a Council owned brownfield site into a new housing scheme with outstanding energy credentials and supporting green spaces for residents.

Our Role
We prepared the early feasibility layout for the site and then worked with Jon James Studio Architecture to progress to planning stage detail and secure the permission. As planning consultants we managed the entirety of the planning process, coordinating the application and technical content and then negotiated the permission. As landscape architects we shaped the site layout designing the public spaces, new planting (including for SuDS) and minimising tree loss, including avoiding the removal of a highly valuable and distinctive Walnut tree.

The Outcome
16 new affordable homes are to be delivered on a constrained small site. Through the architectural design innovative house types will have outstanding energy credentials and will be visually attractive in the local area and be a place that local people want to live.
Externally the site layout is highly efficient with multi-purpose spaces and landscape planting providing future residents with areas for play, health and wellbeing, and to socialise. Critically these areas also provide key amenity functions, allow for car parking and include SUDS to ensure SAB compliance.
