Clordir Road
Project Information
Planning approval for much needed affodable homes
The Challenge
Pontlliw, a small village on Swansea’s northern outskirts, is the site for a proposed 31-home affordable housing development east of Clordir Road. The scheme sensitively extends the settlement, ensuring a well-connected, legible layout while integrating existing landscape features to enhance wildlife corridors and reinforce the rural character.
The development provides 100% affordable housing for local needs, delivering high-quality homes in a central village location near the primary school. Retained mature vegetation shapes a landscape-led setting, creating a strong, natural village edge.
Accessibility and integration are key, with pedestrian-friendly connections, green streets, and public open spaces fostering community and well-being. Pobl’s DQR-compliant house types will be adapted in terms of materiality to reflect local character. Sustainable drainage will also be embedded throughout the site.
Our Role
The Urbanists played a key role in urban design, masterplanning, and architecture, ensuring a well-integrated, community-focused development.
Our approach emphasises strong urban design principles, connectivity, and high-quality public spaces, creating a cohesive and sustainable village extension.

The Outcome
The outcome was a successful planning approval, securing consent for a well-designed, sustainable, and community-focused development. The scheme will deliver high-quality affordable homes while maintaining and enhancing the existing village character.
